Healing by way of natural laws, and why it’s all about your Homeostasis

How Holistic Health can be yours by paying attention to your Homeostatic Balance.11971-1

     Homeostasis is the scientific term for the tendency of an organism to maintain physiological and psychological stability – to regulate it’s internal balance (Milieu), it’s metabolic equilibrium. The fine balance between all the various fluids, nutrients, hormones, enzymes, waste toxins etc.  in your (or any biological) system.  I would include also your mental and spiritual balance as well. All of which is actively maintained by several complex biological mechanisms, as well as your overall lifestyle.  You are what you eat (and expose your self to).

From Greek: homos, “equal”; and histemi, “to stand” lit. “to stand equally”; is the property of a system, or living organism, to self regulate it’s internal environment.

Health = Balance or Ease
Disease = Out of Balance or Lacking Ease

     This means your body has evolved to maintain consistent awareness of it’s internal environment (‘milieu’), every second of your life, making adjustments to maintain the internal balance. When you have balance, you have ease, and health.

Balance of all the many:
-fluids                                                          -nutrients
-hormones                                                  -blood gas
-enzymes                                                     -waste levels
-temperature                                               -hydration
-pH (Per Hydrogen) Acid/Alkaline             -blood pressure
-sugar levels                                                -blood gas
-toxins                                                          -symbiotic & pathogenic microbial levels

     All the many events constantly going on inside of you to maintain balance while all are these fluids are pumping and many catalysts interacting within.  You know your body is mostly fluid, so you can think of your body as an semi-enclosed ecosystem like an aquarium, terrarium, or garden. 

balance     Holistic health, is the approach of treating your body as a whole interconnected being who’s system is always actively maintaining this balance or (ideally) internal harmony, – always considering the entire body as a complete system rather than myopically focusing (specializing) on one particular symptom, body region or technique/drug.

     Pharmaceutical (Allopathic) medicine is almost entirely focused on the symptom; treating the pain or disease, with an allopath, or chemical (drug).

[* I should point out here that techniques like surgery predate (and are separate from) allopathy (drugging with foreign chemicals) by at least a thousand years, and one could even say, if properly applied, could be viewed as a natural healing art that would complement the holistic range of natural homeostasis assisting techniques]

 The focus with holistic health is to concentrate on achieving and maintaining internal balance and improving overall health; physical, mental, spiritual & social factors in the person’s present and past environments.

     ‘Dis-ease’ simply means one’s homeostatic harmony is out of balance or ‘ease’. The medical term for this is “Toxemia”; the condition of being toxic. The toxins are the ‘dis’ in disease.

DEFINITION of Toxemia and crises of Toxemia: In the process of tissue building, metabolism, there is cell building; anabolism, and cell destruction; catabolism. The broken down tissue is toxic and in health, when nerve energy is normal, it is eliminated from the blood as fast as evolved. When nerve energy is dissipated from any cause, physical or mental excitement or bad habits, the body becomes enervated, when enervated, elimination is checked, causing a retention of toxin in the blood or Toxemia. This accumulation of toxin when once established will continue until nerve energy is restored by removing the causes. So-called disease is nature’s effort at eliminating the toxin from the blood. All so-called diseases are crises of Toxemia.

     Health literally means being at ease. Physiological ease. A healthy garden is one where everything is in harmony – lush bio-dynamic organic - permaculture -mutually beneficial inter-planted ”companion” plants, which help defend each other from harm by their very intermixing (by fending of pests, or providing shade, wind shelter, ground cover, holding more / less water etc.).  

   We think of our bodies as being human, but actually there is more microbial mass in your body, than there are human cells.  In fact there are many (10 – 100) times more microbial cells in your body, than there are human cells!

 We live in a symbiotic soup of organisms which make up our internal ecosystem.  Most of the microbes are beneficial and actually NECESSARY, to our life.  Yet allopathic medicine has been focused on trying poison microbes (by using anti-biotics), rather than support the healthy microbial and homeostatic balance.  (which is like hunting bunnies with depleted uranium weapons; you might kill a few bunnies, but you also destroyed the forest and entire ecosystem).

  We can support the symbiotic helpful (the plethora of varieties which make up the majority) of the microbes in our bodies, while inherently providing more competition for the un-symbiotic microbes.  That is in essence what “Preventative Health” is all about.  This was known back when Hippocrates, the father  modern medicine AND holistic / homeopathic medicine was walking around about 2400 years ago in ancient Greece.

bodyThe most important question to ask, when you are deciding whether a health treatment is going to help you is; Does this help bring my body into ease? – does it help me create a harmonic homeostasis?  That is where you are aiming – homeostatic harmony. Even if someone is trying to tell you your condition is ‘terminal’.  If you want health, aim for health.

     Now if a person is already ill and feeling ‘out-of-ease’, and their homeostatic balance is out of alignment, what would happen to that alignment if you then introduced a toxic chemical (pharmaceutical drug) into the persons homeostatic balance? Would it bring your natural balance into ease? Not at all – a new foreign chemical introduced into an already unbalanced system only causes an even further dis-alignment, which the body then must try and deal with. Symptoms may disappear (suppressed because the body has other things now to deal with), but  if it doesn’t help bring the person’s homeostasis back into natural balance or ‘ease’, then it didn’t treat the dis-ease cause, it just dealt with the symptom - leaving you with have what they call ’side-effects’ to deal with!

     Healing by way of natural laws, in contrast, is healing by way of nourishing the body, helping it become at ease and helping you naturally ‘clean house’ and detox… to essentially just to get out of it’s way and assist our internal homeostatic ‘doctor’, that has evolved over the eons along side all the other natural elements, foods, microbes & species, in it’s continual endeavor to achieve a harmony & thrive with vitally potent health!

You Are What You Eat

Most “weight loss” strategies don’t work due to the same reason.  Almost all of them are based on the idea of calorie restriction. Yet are usually just modifications of the standard American diet (SAD).

The reality, which might seem counter intuitive at first is that weight gain is actually about malnutrition & cellular STARVATION. When we eat nutrient sparse (filler) foods – foods loaded with empty calories – we end up with deep cravings & our bodies yearn for the nutrients they need. To Make up for the lack of nutrients in our food, our bodies attempt to acquire MORE of it & overeating. If you eat “filler foods” which bulk up your digestive track and make you feel full, without giving you much other than more gluey junk to clean up, then you will gain weight AND your appetite will increase.

Almost the entire modern standard American diet (SAD) is made up of foods like this; foods high in gluten (or glue) (in pretty much all baked grain /wheat based products, pasta, breads, pastries, cereals), as well as foods containing the sticky gluey proteins found in dairy (especially pasteurized or cooked), and foods containing oxidized (sticky rancid free radical ridden) fats.

The nutrients we need are found in foods which are treated like garnish or decoration to our diet, like mineral dense, vitamin, enzymes, micro-nutrients and trace mineral rich foods like fresh organic fruits and vegetables; green vegetables, roots, fruits, sprouts, nuts, seeds, sea vegetables, berries & flowers (broccoli, cauliflower etc.).

Calorie restriction, (without boosting nourishment) results in relapse, your body will crave nutrients. The best way to acquire a healthy weight is to eat nutrient dense physically appropriate (most evolutionarily familiar) foods. Foods which even if you over ate, you couldn’t possibly gain weight because they do not have the “plugging” ingredients like sticky oxidized fats (especially animal fats), gluey gluten, and casein glues in dairy products.  When you eat nutrient dense foods, your body will start to flush all the junk out, while using the nutrients for all kinds of healing and detoxification processes, while quenching your hunger more thoroughly.

In the end you can’t cheat your body. People have appetites for a reason, and that is to show us our body needs nutrients.  If you eat nutrient dense foods; foods which are high in fibre, live enzymes, minerals, vitamins, then you quench the actual hunger instinct for nutrients, while providing the building blocks necessary for bringing your body back to a natural, ideal body weight for life!

Also keep in mind, foods which are grown organically are not only healing to the planet, but contain any where from twice to hundreds of times more mineral and nutrients as the industrial crop variety.  Think about THAT when your looking at the price. And consider how much it actually is going to quench your hunger for nutrients. Heirloom crops or wild foraged are even better!

Green Leafy Vegetation (aim as high as you can to 50% of your diet):

What were looking for here is the chlorophyll & mineral dense, fibre bulking foods. 

Fruits (Sweet, Non-Sweet & Sour) (30 – 40% of your diet):
